Reception

Welcome to Reception's class page.  Here you can find out about what we are learning this week, important upcoming events and see what Early Years is all about!

Please see 'Letters to Parents' for the weekly letter informing you of what is happening in the classroom

You will also receive a weekly  'Friday letter' which will also be posted on Dojo so that you are always aware of what we are doing in the classroom.

Hello everyone my name is Mrs Rowles and I am the Early Years Lead and Reception class teacher here at St Thomas.

Within EYFS we work as a team and the other members of my team are:
Miss Parker / Miss Hill – Nursery teacher
Miss Cooper and Mrs Brokenbrow who are both based within the EYFS department.

We are very proud of our EYFS department and we enjoy creating an amazing learning environment where children can build knowledge and skills.
I have been teaching for many years and really enjoy coming to school and watching children learn and progress whilst they are within our EYFS department.

In Nursery and Reception we have an inside/ outside curriculum and we will provide  the children with wellington boots and protective clothing  to ensure their school shoes stay dry and clean. We play outside in all weather conditions

During the day we do Literacy, Mathematics and Phonics and have a creative, active hands on’ curriculum that meets the needs all the seven areas of learning within the EYFS Curriculum.

Key Days

Monday: I change reading books and library books.

During the school year we will be having PE. A PE kit is provided  by school but your little one will need black velcro pumps to use during the PE sessions.  It is important that you provide them at the start of the school year so that the children are prepared.

Our Learning Environment

Please see our amazing learning environment – Look under ‘Parents’ and the ‘EYFS’ where you will find lots of information linked to our curriculum and how you can support your child at home.

Learning Platform – Dojo – If you have any questions or queries regarding school activities or anything in general please do not hesitate to contact me through Dojo.

Lunches at St Thomas

All children will be attending lunch time during their time in Reception. We have lunch at 11:30am in the school hall. Parents can decide whether to send their child in with a packed lunch or pay for a school dinner. A school dinner is provided free by the government from Reception - Year 2.

It is extremely important to provide your child with a nutritional packed lunch if you decide to bring your own. This can consist of a sandwich, fruit, a packet of crisps / biscuits and a drink.
