Our Learning Environment
Within Nursery we ensure the children have a safe and happy place to learn, work and play. Children are guided on a nurturing journey enabling them to become confident, inquisitive, imaginative, and empathetic learners. We make sure the children are provided with a good balance of child-led initiated opportunities as well as adult-led opportunities which promote independence and encourages children to embrace challenges and to persevere. Our learning opportunities are provided inside and outside the classroom and we provide all children with waterproofs so they can go outside whatever the weather! This year, we have been able to provide all children with wellies which stay at school.
Information for Parents
When your child starts your Nursery place at St Thomas, you will be invited in for an induction morning or afternoon. This is so you and your child can get a feel of the learning environment and meet your class teacher as well as new friends! This will allow us to see how your child settles and we can plan our next steps on your child starting their learning journey with us.
It is important that when your child starts their nursery place you bring in the following for spare clothes:
-Trousers / skirt
-Socks
-Underwear
-Jumper
-Top
It is very important to bring your child into Nursery with a coat (whatever the weather) every single day.
Snack time at St Thomas
Every morning, children will have a snack which consists of water or milk and a piece of fruit. Water is available throughout the day in the classroom and children are provided with their own water bottle from school.
Lunches at St Thomas
All children will be attending lunch time during their time at Nursery. We have lunch at 11:30am in the school hall. Parents can decide whether to send their child in with a packed lunch or pay for a school dinner. A school dinner is charged at £1.25 and can be paid for on Parent Pay.
It is extremely important to provide your child with a nutritional packed lunch. This can consist of a sandwich, fruit, a packet of crisps / biscuits and a drink.
Toileting at St Thomas
We do encourage toilet independence in Nursery. If you are struggling with toilet training at home then here is a link with some useful tips to support you at home:
